Augment your treatments and impact rehabilitation time with DAP. An advanced treatment method Paul successfully uses when addressing mobility restrictions, including patients in wheelchairs, sports enthusiast, whiplash, frozen shoulder, post surgery, TOS, etc. Safe application of techniques, body mechanics and hand saving techniques for applying DAP will be demonstrated and practiced.

As a therapist, do you suffer from low back pain, thumbs, mid back, legs and even upper back pain due to work related activities? This 1 day on workshop on Dynamic Angular Petrissage (DAP) conducted by Paul Lewis is designed to help reduce the aches and pains that threaten your health and the longevity of your career.

He will focus on “therapist outcomes” while introducing treatment approaches for addressing client issues in the shoulder girdle, cervical and the back. We will introduce and practice hand saving techniques, body mechanics, body positioning and application of treatment techniques for clients on the table, in a chair, in a wheel chair and seated massage chair.

You will learn different ways of using less effort with great results and ultimately to use your body to increase/decrease applied pressure; hand saving techniques, alternative tools to address soft tissue issues. We will not be trying to recreate the wheel.

We will expand on already established treatment techniques to minimize stress on both therapist and client.

This course will teach advanced skills to augment your current treatment plan. Learn how to incorporate these into your existing practice and broaden the scope of your work. Ideal for therapists wanting to learn hand saving techniques and take their skills to a new level as you will learn treatment techniques Paul uses/used on patients from professional athletes with shoulder & low back pain to patients with post surgical mastectomy pain and restricted movement, tennis/golfer’s elbow, hip/knee replacement, cervical restrictions, to the child with cervical issues.

The treatment techniques can be used with or without lotion and on skin or over clothing.

This workshop will start with a common case presentation of a client to effectively look at the symptomatic presentation in order to support the clinical reasoning and rational for techniques, modalities, treatment positions and structures addressed. The introduction of Dynamic Angular Petrissage(DAP) will be used to augment the treatment and reduce treatment stresses on the therapist. Therapists will be introduced to and practice the various had saving techniques, modalities and treatment positions based on the evaluation of the case presented. Postural positioning for safe application of techniques along with self care exercises will be introduced and practiced. In addition, segmental stretching and triple Knuckle stripping will be demonstrated and practiced- technique which allows control of depth for treating large back muscles.

Learning objective At the end of the course the learner will have:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Accessing, Activating and treating various muscles in the upper body
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply the concepts of DAP to augment massage treatment
  • Identify and demonstrate postural positioning for safe application of techniques
  • Learn and practice upper body treatment techniques to reduce stress on the therapist
  • Reliably demonstrate the ability to determine through reasoning which structures to address

What to bring:  You will need to wear comfortable clothing and a little lotion.   Handouts will be provided.

Prerequisite: Familiar with muscular and skeletal anatomy and versed in massage therapy
