Dynamic Angular Petrissage:  Not deep, rather detailed

DAP is not a deep pressure treatment but because of the detail work involved, the client may feel as if it is. Each client may interpret and feel different based on their own response to touch. For example, a post-surgical mastectomy client from North Carolina writes:

“This method of massage that I have never experienced before uses your own body for resistance and movement to work muscles and goes deep into muscle groups for optimum results. While his methods are painful at times, the end result is well worth the discomfort. In the course of two sessions, my range of motion improved and level of pain decreased. This method should be a must for all massage professionals who work with surgical patients to get them on their feet and moving sooner than later.”

Therapeutic Massage DVD Wins Telly Award – Massage Therapy

It is recommended that you take the Advanced Upper body treatment Techniques course prior to the Chair course but not required.

Title of Course: Comprehensive In Chair Massage techniques with Advanced body mechanics  10CPD

The focus of the course is not only on Corporate but also about versatility- being able to use the chair on its own or in conjunction with the table treatment .   Whether you are treating  on the chair an athlete, senior, pregnant or injured client, the skills learned here will be invaluable. You will learn and practice basic and advanced in-chair massage techniques incorporating modified Swedish techniques. This will include assessment tips and discussion on incorporating other modalities such as Joint mobilizations, Dynamic Angular Petrissage(DAP)…  You will learn strategies for land marking and assessment over-the-clothing.  Instruction emphasizes proper biomechanics for chair massage transferable to the table or other activities. Therapists will be introduced to, and practice warm-up and grounding exercises that will prepare them to safely apply learned skills, resulting in reduced stress on the body.A practical review of the skeletal and muscular anatomy of the back, shoulder girdle, and cervical areas will be given. As well, therapists will practice and learn about the workings of the massage chair including how to properly adjust it for comfort, its maintenance, limitations and repair. Therapists will learn strategies for integrating seated/in-chair massage into their existing practice and about determining when the benefits of using in-chair massage outweigh table massage.By the end of the course, it is expected that participants will be able use the chair to augment their current practice(and treat over the clothing or with lotion) and to perform at least a 10 and 15 minute advance routine for off-site/corporate use. This 10CPD 2 day course and practitioner certificates are awarded upon successful completion of your 4 case studies as noted below, plus some coursework to be completed at home.At the end of day 1 you will be required to take a short written and practical assessment to ensure your competency before commencing your case studies.
Case Studies: Further practice will be required in the form of 4 case studies (4 separate individuals treated just once – 2 single treatments for relaxation and 2 single treatments for treatment/rehabilitation). Your tutor will be on hand to provide any support and answer questions during this period.
A comprehensive seated Massage course manual covering the contents of the 2 day course will be supplied for future reference.
